Last night at the 35th Arts & Business Awards, Deutsche Bank was awarded the prestigious Arts & Business Corporate Responsibility Award for the Deutsche Bank Awards for Creative Enterprises. Attended by over 400 leaders in business and the arts at the BFI Southbank, the awards celebrate the very best arts and business partnerships.
Since 1993, the Deutsche Bank Awards for Creative Enterprises has helped graduating students in creative disciplines move into successful freelance careers through bespoke training and one-to-one support to help them develop their entrepreneurial ideas. In this supportive but competitive process, 15 winners receive start-up capital, mentoring and business training. To date the programme has helped launch over 165 new businesses and has provided tailored training to over 1,800 students.
Stephen Milne, Global Technology and volunteer for the programme, received the award on behalf of the Bank last night. He said: “The Deutsche Bank Awards are a part our youth engagement programme, working to prevent and address high unemployment amongst the next generation. Over 300 employee volunteers have contributed and developed their own skills over the programme’s lifetime. The Awards also encourage young people to set up their own businesses and to use their creative skills to innovate, encouraging growth in the SME market.”
Speaking about the impact the initiative has on the participants of the programme, Tim Robert, Director of Higher Education at Circus Space, one of the participating colleges said: “The Awards have given our students the chance learn some of the essential skills they need to succeed as professional circus artists. Understanding budgets, deadlines and how to speak to partners that are not necessarily from the circus world – this does not come naturally to them but it does give them the edge they need to develop a sustainable career in their field.”
At the awards ceremony last night, Jonathan Tuchner, Deputy Director of Arts & Business, talked about why it’s important to recognise partnerships between business and the arts: “The arts are in a much richer place due to the long term commitment and support of business and we believe these collaborations can continue to go from strength to strength. This year’s entries were incredibly strong and the winners are superb examples of how business and the arts can work well together for the good of both.”
The Deutsche Bank Awards for Creative Enterprises is part of Deutsche Bank’s Born to Be youth engagement programme that aims to develop employability skills, raise aspirations and offer opportunities to young people.
