Matthew Slotover founded frieze magazine with co-publisher Amanda Sharp and artist Tom Gidley in 1991, and was inaugural editor until 1998. In 2003 they launched Frieze Art Fair in Regent’s Park London, showing over 2,000 artists from 180 galleries, and 34 countries. The fair attracts 60,000 visitors across the five days of the fair. In May 2012 Frieze launched a sister fair in New York, situated on Randall’s Island, Manhattan. October 2012 saw the first edition of Frieze Masters, a fair for historical art, coinciding with Frieze London in Regent’s Park. From 2015 onwards Matthew will focus on developing new projects for the company. Matthew is currently chair of the South London Gallery; serves on the board of Create, an organization dedicated to bringing the arts to local communities in East London; and is part of the selection committee for the annual Fourth Plinth commission in Trafalgar Square. He was awarded an OBE in 2012 for services to the Arts.
