Mutakura a snack eaten during holidays, family events during conversation to reconnect before the main meal, the dish my father would carry when sent to herd cattle growing up in rural Mhondoro before migrating to Harare and eventually London is a Shona word translating as what is carried on a journey for me it’s a vehicle to share stories about migration, adaptation and culture. I am applying to continue this project by travelling around the UK facilitating a space for oral storytelling around food and histories of recent diaspora in the UK, adapting the dish as I go to reflect encounters.
